Our domus

On the occasion of my recent dives in the sea of \u200b\u200bculture Rimini (touching almost anywhere without ever risking drowning), I also visited the Surgeon's House . I wanted to write first and I take this opportunity to do so after the local press celebrated the recent publication of the last book of Alberto Angela "Empire", in which the son of the quark Piero has reserved in his work a substantial contribution to the Domus Rimini and the doctor Eutyches.
Alberto Angela was invited by the local authority to preside over the opening ceremony of the archaeological site of Piazza Ferrari completed in 2007 after 18 years of work, not hiding his deep feeling for that finding. Apparently they were not words of circumstance if, after so long, returned to the topic in a publication.

My visit took place one Sunday in November, at the end of a cycle of meetings of bibliotherapy. In that month the initiative was being "open museum" that allowed free visits to exhibitions and museums (usually used for admission only € 5).
The first thing that catches the eye is this big glass case and bricks covering the excavation. After sunset turns standing out in the middle of the gardens and arousing the curiosity of those who passes by. Many face the external walls and peer inside, and probably think they can also enjoy the sight of so many parties.
were set up inside the metal and plexiglass elevated walkways that allow you to move in all directions and see the hole from every angle. As there are finds from different periods, one can admire the mosaics of the villa of the surgeon but also crypts full of skeletons on construction of medieval origin. In short, for just pennies and in just twenty minutes you can admire one of the most interesting archaeological sites in the region and around the North Italy. The discovery of the working tools of the doctor is a discovery of even global level as there are very few examples of tools so well preserved. As you can read the website, this was possible because of the collapse of the roof of the villa that would be covered and protected over time the mosaics that gear, allowing up to us. And who do we thank for this? This is really strange: the fire was caused by a raid of Germans who put Rimini (Ariminum) on fire. In practice, the ancestors of those same Germans that almost 1800 years after they made the fortune of this stretch of coast. Then they tried again on the Gothic Line, and we, after all, we welcomed them with flatbread and sangiovese. There will be a reason why the Romagna is recognized by all as the land of hospitality!
